Finding optimal strategies in a multi-period multi-leader-follower Stackelberg game using an evolutionary algorithm

چکیده
Stackelberg games are a classic example of bilevel optimization problems, which are often encountered in game theory and economics. These are complex problems with a hierarchical structure, where one optimization task is nested within the other. Despite a number of studies on handling bilevel optimization problems, these problems still remain a challenging territory, and existing methodologies are able to handle only simple problems with few variables under assumptions of continuity and differentiability. In this paper, we consider a special case of a multi-period multi-leader-follower Stackelberg competition model with non-linear cost and demand functions and discrete production variables. The model has potential applications, for instance in aircraft manufacturing industry, which is an oligopoly where a few giant firms enjoy a tremendous commitment power over the other smaller players. We solve cases with different number of leaders and followers, and show how the entrance or exit of a player affects the profits of the other players. In the presence of various model complexities, we use a computationally intensive nested evolutionary strategy to find an optimal solution for the model. The strategy is evaluated on a test-suite of bilevel problems, and it has been shown that the method is successful in handling difficult bilevel problems. ∗Corresponding author Email addresses: [email protected] (Ankur Sinha), [email protected] (Pekka Malo), [email protected] (Anton Frantsev), [email protected] (Kalyanmoy Deb) Preprint submitted to Computers and Operations Research May 11, 2014

A decentralized multi-level leader-follower game for network design of a competitive supply chain
This paper develops a decentralized leader-follower game for network design of a competitive supply chain problem in which a new chain as the leader enters a market with one existing supply chain as a follower. Both chains produce an identical product, customer demand is inelastic and customer utility function is based on Huff gravity-based model. The leader wants to shape his network and set a...
متن کاملPlaying repeated Stackelberg games with unknown opponents
In Stackelberg games, a “leader” player first chooses a mixed strategy to commit to, then a “follower” player responds based on the observed leader strategy. Notable strides have been made in scaling up the algorithms for such games, but the problem of finding optimal leader strategies spanning multiple rounds of the game, with a Bayesian prior over unknown follower preferences, has been left u...
متن کاملIncentive Stackelberg Strategies for Flow Configuration of Parallel Networks
This work consider the problem of flow control using incentive strategy in Stackelberg game theory. The network model employed here is that users route their flows from a common source to a common destination node, each of them trying to optimize its individual performance objective. First, the existing Stackelberg routing strategy is briefly introduced. And then, the linear Stackelberg incenti...
متن کاملExistence conditions for an optimal affine leader function in the reverse Stackelberg game
We investigate the solvability of the reverse Stackelberg game. Here, a leader player acts first by presenting a leader function that maps the follower decision space into the leader decision space. Subsequently, the follower acts by determining his optimal decision variable. Such a game setting can be adopted within a multi-level optimization approach for large-scale control problems like road...
متن کاملFighting m-criminals with Bayesian Stackelberg games
Bayesian Stackelberg games have been used to compute optimal patrol strategies for the security of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) by modelling the security situation as a 1-leader, 1-follower, Bayesian game where there is one leader type and an arbitrary number of follower types. A previous approach, named DOBSS, computes the Stackelberg solution for this game by solving a Mixed In...
